2 Day Guided Snowshoeing Overnight in Shikotsu-Toya National Park.

2 days

Moderate

With a variety of routes to choose from we can tailor an excursion that suits your experience level and allows you to get the most out of your adventure.
The meeting time is 7;30am at Makomanai subway train Station.
An example of an overnight snowshoeing trek is as follows-
From there we will travel by private transport approx. half an hour to the trailhead. After completing preparation and discussing safety precautions and the day's forecast weather conditions, we will set out for our overnight accommodation traversing through forest, crossing streams, and gradually gaining elevation for 5 kilometres. This should take around 3 hours before arriving at a camping location or an alpine hut. Once we arrive there we can settle in and prepare for the next day's summit approach as well as explore the surrounding alpine lakes or forest for some wildlife watching.

The next morning will see us enjoy breakfast and then off to the summit for a 2-hour hike to enjoy the legendary vistas.
Returning to the hut, we can enjoy an early lunch and short rest, or continue through to the transportation and spend the afternoon at a local onsen before returning to Sapporo where we finish the tour.

A full equipment list will be provided of what will be required for these treks when you book any of these excursions.

    What to bring

Adequate footwear must be worn for the activity we will undertake. Mid height hiking/trekking boots that are waterproof and are lace up are highly recommended. Clothing made of synthetic or merino wool blend are the best options for base layer and mid layer clothing, Cotton clothing is not recommended for outdoor winter activities as it holds moisture from sweat and will freeze, which may cause safety issues such as hypothermia.

Outer shell clothing should be made of a breathable, waterproof membrane to assist in body temperature regulation and protect from wind and cold.

45-60 litre backpack should be brought to allow storage of personal food, sleeping bag, and personal items.

A full list will be provided to all participants upon booking confirmation.
